Why the Central Building Authority holds some peeps to the highest of their standards, yet some peeps get a free pass even with total violation of building and health codes. I guess it's politics.

A large percentage of structures in San Pedro have no building permits and would not qualify for one if the owner had applied. In many cases it's not the rich and powerful who are flaunting the law - it's the people with 4 sheets of plywood and a piece of zinc. I'd say that this is one arena where universal enforcement is simply not going to happen. I guess it's considered better in a shack than living on the street ---

I agree with most coments made, especially that even a shack is better than living on the street. Maybe I should have been more clear though. I am talking about peeps that have good size property and enough $ to do things right. But some of the peeps out here are held to high standard by the CBA and some peeps, not poor peeps, just dump sewage on the land. They can afoard a proper septic but just don't care and govt doesn't enforce the codes on them. Belizeans and gringos are disgusted by this, but I guess it's true that some peeps are more equal.....
