The San Pedro Sun received a call about a boat that had caught fire on the water in front of Victoria House(VH). The boat named “Eco 1" belonged to tour operator Ecologic Divers.

According to fire officials, on November 13, at about 5:10 pm, they received a call that a boat had caught fire. According to the official report, guests had just been dropped off at the VH dock after a dive trip, and the captain along with 3 other passengers had driven off a short distance when the boat caught fire. All 4 people on board were able to get out and head out to shore. They were unable to get their personal items off the boat.

While the firemen were called to the scene, they were unable to gain access to the beach with their vehicles/equipment, and the boat remained ablaze. The SPFD used a portable pump to turn off the final flames, but the boat was completely destroyed. The total loss has not been finalized, and the Fire Department will investigate as to the cause of the fire.

As the sun was setting last night, a large explosion was heard down the beach south of town. An Ecologic Divers boat returning from a dive trip had caught fire. Apparently, the fire became large quite quickly in one of the engines and the decision was made to evacuate. Thankfully, all passengers exited into the water before the explosion happened.
