The Governor General says that the petition of Friends of Belize is incomplete. In a letter dated 14th of October – addressed to Ms. Tanya Usher executive director for Friends of Belize, the governor general stated that the petition does not contain the specific question or proposition which will be put to the electors to a vote. As a result of the public consultation the government has declared its intentions to amend the original bill – and according to the GG the petition calls for referendum on the original bill and takes no account to the proposed changes to be made before enactment. Finally the GG explained even if the signatures were to be forwarded to the election and boundaries by time of the vetting – the bill would have come into law – therefore no 9th amendment bill would have been in existence.
