Cold is one thing, but cold and grey is just downright depressing.  Yesterday was chilly (in the 70s for most of the day), windy and dark.   This type of cold front only happens a few times a year (generally December or January) and always comes as a bit of a shock to me.  (For your guide on clothing yourself during these chilly times, check out yesterday's post:  How To Dress Like A Local)

(I know I am going to get lots of comments along these lines:   "you don't know cold" or "here, in International Falls, it is 15 below zero" or "in Alaska, we live in permanent cold and darkness" but remember two things.  1.  This is the tropics.  Cold is relative.  For Belize, this is a "cold front".  2.  Maybe it's time for you to move down here!)

It's not all negative.  The weather does herald a few good things.  For one, Hurricane Season is coming to a close.  Only one day left in the 2011 season.

Well I am in Michigan and it's snowing. I can't wait to get back to San Pedro and shiver in the 70's.

I could handle shivering in the 70's for sure. Weekend forecast for No. Illinois is rain/snow mix. Ick.

This thread reminds me of a conversation that I had last January with a friend who lives in San Pedro. He was complaining that he had to wear 2 long sleeve t-shirts and a jacket when he walked to work (along the beach, of course). What a wonderful problem to have!!

The sun is shining right now but still more like wind than breeze. I call this January weather. I just ordered a blanket for my bed - and yes - the next home I build will have some sort of wood burning feature. Maybe right below the waterfall. lol

Where are you going to get the wood, Harriette?

Wood grows so fast here that there is an abundance. I have learned that Sea Grape burns slow and coals like California Oak. It is great to cook with.

OK, Harriette, guess that makes sense. I was thinking about how it is here at home. Running over to the gas station to buy a bundle for the fireplace, or alternately, stacking/stocking up for the firepit.

On the other hand, using wood for energy is how Haiti has become deforested. I'm just sayin' . . .
