Sounds like Las Palmas Hotel (used to be Nestor's) in Corozal Town, while still a hotel (and still for sale for US$1.65 million) is moving toward becoming an assisted living center or even a nursing/retirement home.
The owner, Dr. Rublee, a retired chiropractor, is offering 24-hour assisted living services for seniors on the lower level, including meals, entertainment, transport, some medical care, exercise, etc. for US$3K the first month and then US$2K per per month. La Palmas also is offering a retirement program without the medical care aspect, presumably for lower cost.
Previously, Banana Bank Lodge near Belmopan was talking about going into a similar line of retirement living care.
Maybe this is a way to convert some of the underutilized hotels into more productive assets.
