Nice fireworks tonight. We didn't have any idea they were going to happen. If it wasn't for the big boom booms as they were getting started we would have missed them completely. What happened to a heads up? Were they intended to be private?

We could see them too catfish, all the way from down south. They were big and very nice indeed. I never heard a thing about them either.

We expected to see Capt. Sparrow and the Black Pearl anchored off shore when we got up this morning.

I was at Pedro's inn outside in the yard when the fireworks started. Karma our dog (the one that went missing the last time we had fireworks) went absolutely nuts, shivering like a leaf, he broke his leash and luckily tried to get into the bar as opposed to out onto the street, he was freaked out for a good hour after they stopped too, and it definitely took a lot of coaxing to get him out of the building. There were a few people left in central park when we walked past, but not half as many I bet as were expecting fireworks on NYE. So glad the expenditure was saved for a "real" occasion!

It was an enjoyable few minutes but I wonder at what expense. Seems like the $$ could have gone to a much better cause. I Googled "cost of fireworks displays" and it looks like the minimum would have been at least 5000 $U.S. Maybe someone has a brother-in-law in Guatemala that got them a special deal. I'll remember how pretty they were when I drive over the potholed road on the way to town.

My condolences to poor karma, I think I've posted before that some animals never get used to fireworks. A bit of a heads up allows owners to secure their animals ahead of the show. Perhaps SAGA could inquire about the possibility of requesting notice in the local paper or e-papers?

I can say based on my own shows that the estimate of about $5k USD for the minimum show is about right...in the states. I doubt it runs that much in Belize.

The shells are likely mexican, or at least central american made, which makes them much less expensive on the wholesale basis. Of course the local operators are just that, local and don't require much in the way of travel overages like some companies I have worked for (Grucci,Zambelli,Souza) The driving cost in the states is of course insurance.

I'd advise you to read SanPedroScoop.com! She knew about the fireworks...as she does about many activities on AC. She's straightforward, funny, informative...and posts lots of pictures.
