You can bring one bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes per person from outside Belize. There is, however, a duty free shop in the arrival section of Belize International. Be aware that you must make your purchases prior to going through customs and put any liquor you buy into your checked bags if flying over to San Pedro. If you buy at the Belize duty free shop, I believe the limit is four bottles per person and four cartons of cigarettes.

I bought a bottle of red wine in the duty-free shop last time I came through.
It was only $6US so I was wondering how good it would be ..... it was very good and I wished I'd bought my 4-bottle limit!

When we were down in December, Tropic Air did not want the bottles in our check-through bags. They took the bottles at the ticket counter and gave us a receipt, then we were handed the bottles as we boarded our Tropic flight.

Just curious why you can not bring the 4 bottles of liquor from Duty free in the US as opposed to buying it at the Belize Airport.

Because if you are buying in at the Belize Arrival Duty Free shop, you are spending your money in Belize. That's not an official answer, just my opinion. Makes sense.

I was asking about when you travel from the US to Belize I understand you can bring 4 bottles of liquor duty-free and I see people suggest you buy when you land at Belize City International before you go through customs and my question was why not purchase at duty-free in Miami where the prices and selection maybe better and bring it on the plane.

Clarification needed please: I'm not so sure Bz Customs is going to be so lenient (or allow) with 4 bottles purchased elsewhere ( i.e. other than their own duty free) without you paying duty.

Last time I purchased the permissible 4 at the Belize Duty free I was directed to the "Declare line" and asked to show the duty free receipt. Once I did that I was on my merry way. Of course from what I saw of other people doing the same, once youre in the declare line the agents certainly didn't have any qualms about asking what was in a certain piece of luggage even if you did only go throught the line to have your 4 bottles approved.

If you are buying from the duty free in the US, you are only allowed 2 bottle each. If you buy at the incoming duty free in Belize, you're allowed 4 bottles each and the price is a lot less.

Because the prices and selection at the duty free in MIA might not be better or cheaper then at BZE, AND you can only purchase 2 bottles in MIA.

The "declare" line wants to see the receipt from the shop. Actually, I've gone through faster in the declare line than getting called over randomly from the "nothing" line. The guys know you're there(the declare line) b/c of the booze, and do a casual look through. Yes, I know you can breeze through most times.
