Is Corazol safe? Most of the ads for long term rentals mention burglar bars, etc. I like the sound of the laid back atmosphere (my husband and I are homebodies) and would love to talk to someone who lives there and can answer more detailed (and maybe dumb) questions.

Hi. I lived in Corozal for 10 years. It is a wonderful place to live, close to Mexico and the bay is wonderful place to hang out on the weekends. Most upscale homes have burglar bars fitted, this is not a reflection of the crime in Corozal, it is a safe place to live, but the same rules should apply for any where. Dont flash money around, dont walk the streets that have no lights at night and dont invite strangers into your home. The people of Corozal are very warm and friendly and will make you feel welcome.
