I just got caught in a downpour walking on the road toward south point and lying in the road, apparently taking a shower was a pretty big snake! Husband thinks it was close to 4 feet. Dog almost stepped on it. It seemed to like the rain.

I looked up some photos of the CC Boa on line but they look kind of white and spotted. This guy was much more brown and (I think) striped).

Boas are pretty common here. We rescued one well over seven feet from our dogs in the garden. When it is cool, it is more common to see them as they come out at the first sight of sun to warm up. They are slow when they are cold. Brilliant and very useful creatures.

It's very odd that it was in the middle of the road during a downpour then! But it did seem a bit frozen in place. As you know it rained all morning, then dried out then started pouring again. Maybe it came out on the road to sun itself and got caught in the rain and was stunned and slow?

Debbie! How frustrating! My dog is pretty small. I'm glad he didn't step on the snake. For some reason I got the impression that snakes were rare on Caye Caulker. Doesn't sound like they are rare at your house!

Debbie, That must be a nightmare for you. We have a good relocation site here on Ambergris Caye (near the dump as there is plenty of prey there). Perhaps you'd like to send him over.

Saw one about 4-6 feet long (hard to tell since he was all wrapped up in a fence) under our vacation rental house a few miles south of town two years ago. Left him alone and he had disappeared within a few hours.

Here's a pic of him:

Edit: Sorry! This was on AC, not CC.
