In his New Years 2012 message Dean Barrow told Belizeans that basically the year 2011 was a good one and then he went on to speak about his Governments plans for the year 2012. But what Barrow forgot to tell the Belizean public is when his administration will keep their promise of maintaining the price of fuel below the $8.00 mark and that effective January 1st 2012 the price of fuel would see an increase.
Yes, you heard right, since January 1st consumers have been paying more for a gallon of fuel. The new increase in fuel prices came crawling like death into the night, unwanted and unannounced. So the next time you go to the pumps you will notice that the price for a gallon of Premium fuel went from $10.85 to $10.98 as it saw an increase of .13 cents. Regular went up by .18 cents and now sells for $10.64 while diesel saw an increase of .3 cents putting the new price at $10.12 per gallon. Kerosene is the only fuel that saw a reduction of .23 cents and now sells for $7.84 per gallon.
Today we found out that drivers were unaware about the rise in fuel prices.
Mr. Reyes- Fuel Consumer
"Fuel prices all the time it goes up, it goes up like today and tomorrow it comes down one cent the next day they put on ten, so it doesn't make any sense and that pressures ever body from poor to the rich it pressure and that is my comment."
Mr. Guadalupe Copo- Fuel Consumer
"No I did not know that the fuel prices went up."
Jose Gonsalez-Reporter
"As a Consumer how do you feel that the gas prices went up?
Mr. Guadalupe Copo- Fuel Consumer
"I guess it is affecting us a lot."
Mr. Acosta- Fuel Consumer
"Tiene tiempos que suben y en veces que baja pero dicen que los gobiernos lo sube y no sabemos como esta. Me siento muy mal porque nosotros mas consumimos mas y sin las maquinarias que no se mueven no podemos hacer nada y siempre tengo que comprar diesel y aunque suba siempre tenemos que comprar y no podemos hacer mejor."
Fuel Consumer
"It doesn't suppose to go up but at the same time I guess that the crude outside suppose to expensive that's why and we cannot blame our prime minister for that."
As in several other occasions the increase was not announced by the Barrow Administration.
