Recently traveled with my octopus and discovered that upon arriving the TSA has disassembled it and had not left a note to that affect. Problems ensued when diving. Is it possible or has anyone traveled with a regulator assembly as carry on baggage?

I traveled at Christmas with my regulator assembly in carry on. Normally it's packed in my luggage and have never had an issue. They wanted to hand check my carry on bag just to make sure that it was a regulator.

My regulator, mask and wristcomputer are ALWAYS with me in my carryon. Almost always get my suitcase searched on the inbound portion of the trip, just to make sure it is a regulator (as the other poster said). But rarely is it examined on the return, as dive destinations are familiar with such things, whereas most Cdn and US security are not.

9-11 made the scuba rental business go double then triple. especially fins, BC's and Regulators. We have to carry a huge inventory now.
People just don't want to carry on, too much hassle.
