Does 2012 Signal the End of Time? Belizeans Say No
Maya Descendants Believe End of Calendar Brings New Beginnings

December 21, 2011 (San Pedro, Belize) - Only 365 days remain until the end of the 5126-year-old Mayan calendar next year, and the beliefs of many will be tested as time ticks down in 2012. On December 21, 2012, the world as we know it will end - or so it's thought by those who believe next year's end to the 5126-year-old Mayan calendar signals the end of time. However, Maya descendants in Belize, the epicenter of the ancient Mayan world, reject popular doomsday scenarios, and instead see the calendar's end as a joyous time of spiritual rebirth and new beginnings.

In honor of this historic moment, Belize is hosting the "Maya Marriage of Many," scheduled for the last of the alliteration dates on 12/12/12.  There are thirty-six available slots for couples, along with 218 of their closest friends and family, to take part in an exclusive and unique wedding celebration in Belize, staged on the steps of an ancient Maya Palace at the 3200-year-old Mayan City of Cahal Pech. This will be the first and only time a mass marriage will be permitted to take place on the ruins as each couple's love story is forever woven in the fabric of Mayan culture and tradition.

"As the home of the Western Hemisphere's largest barrier reef and majestic mountains dotted with Maya sites, Belize is a culturally rich destination wedding location for those looking to celebrate their love and good fortune in a truly epic way," says to Lara Goldman, a destination management consultant and owner and founder of Romantic Travel Belize. "And, since this is the only place in the Yucatan where you can get married on the Maya Palace itself (dating back to 1200 BC), guests will experience something extraordinarily different."

In celebration of this unique ceremony, 2012 Weddings Belize is holding a Facebook essay contest for a chance to win one slot in the coveted destination wedding at the "Maya Marriage of Many". The grand-prize winner will be awarded with a luxurious wedding package valued at over $15,000, including an exotic wedding ceremony complete with honeymoon in Belize. The ceremony will be orchestrated by Lara Goldman of Romantic Travel Belize in conjunction with luxury wedding planner Lisa Light of Lisa Light Destinations and celebrity photographer Terry Gruber, among others.

To enter the contest, visit https://www.facebook.com/2012WeddingsBelize. The contest will officially close on January 31, 2012 and the grand prize winner will be announced on February 14, 2012.

For One Bride-To-Be, Valentine's Day Turned South, Way South ... All The Way to Belize, Central America!

Belize 12/12/12 Maya Temple Wedding Winner Announced

SAN PEDRO, Belize and FRISCO, Texas, Feb. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Janelle Franklin and Abel Garcia, Jr. were surprised to learn that their Valentine's Day took a sudden southern turn yesterday. The couple, from a suburb of Dallas, were informed at a Press Conference in Frisco, TX, that they won the Grand Prize wedding and honeymoon package in a pretty extraordinary contest, the www.2012weddingsbelize.com Maya Marriage of Many.

The Grand Prize, worth $16,030, is one of only 12 coveted Bridal Packages for the Maya Marriage of Many that includes the exotic wedding ceremony and a honeymoon by Lara Goldman of Romantic Travel Belize, in conjunction with luxury wedding planner Lisa Light of Lisa Light Destination Bride and celebrity photographer, Terry Gruber, among others. "Janelle and Abel are an amazing couple and the perfect representatives of the Maya Marriage of Many. Janelle was born overseas, and they got engaged on the Eiffel Tower (they climbed it!), so their international flair is just perfect for this event. I could not have hand chosen a better couple to win this package. I look forward to spending the year with them," said Lara Goldman, owner of Romantic Travel Belize and contest organizer. "With the Big Reveal behind us and our cornerstone couple in place, now the attention shifts to the remaining 11 couples whose stories will be woven into the fabric of Mayan culture and tradition with this exclusive historical event."

The Maya Marriage of Many is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be married in the Mayan Mountains of Belize on the steps of the 3200-year old ancient Mayan Palace of Cahal Pech on 12/12/12. Only eleven more couples will have the honor of participating in this event being watched from around the world.

The 12.12.12 Event is being held in honor of the last remaining days of the 5126 year old Mayan calendar and the beliefs of many will be tested as time ticks down in 2012. On December 21, 2012, the world as we know it will end - or so it's thought by those who believe the culmination of the 5126 year old Mayan calendar signals the end of time. Of course, the Maya who still live in Belize, would beg to differ. Many of the Maya in Belize, the epicenter of the ancient Mayan world, reject popular doomsday scenarios and instead see the calendar's end as a joyous time of spiritual rebirth, renewal and new beginnings.

"As the home of the Western Hemisphere's largest barrier reef and majestic mountains dotted with Maya sites, Belize is a culturally rich destination wedding location for those looking to celebrate their love and good fortune in a truly epic way," says Goldman. "Since this is the only place in the Yucatan where you can get married on the actual Maya Palace's themselves. The site of this epic event dates back to 1200 BC. Guests will truly experience something extraordinary."
