Tropic Air announces New Non-Stop Service between Belize City and San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Tropic Air announced today that it will be inaugurating three times weekly non-stop Cessna Caravan service between Belize City International Airport and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on March 12th, 2012. With the launching of this service and the opening of its new station there, Tropic Air will be the only airline to operate non-stop flights between the two countries.

This service is a direct response to requests from its valued customers, and carries through on the airline’s stated commitment to the people of Belize. It will not only serve to make travel between Belize and Honduras easier, but will allow for the expansion of trade and tourism between the two countries.

“When we launched Guatemala City last year, we also promised that we would keep growing domestically and internationally. This fullfills that promise, and there is even more to come. San Pedro Sula (SAP) is an integral part of the growth strategy for Tropic Air and as such we feel it important that we link the growing economies of Central America with Belize” said John Greif III, President of Tropic Air. “We are continuously seeking new and innovative routes that promote tourism, business, travel and cargo within Belize and in the region. San Pedro Sula is just such a destination for the Airline of Belize”

The flight schedule for the new route is as follows

Departs Time Arrives Time
Belize City (BZE) 08:00AM San Pedro Sula (SAP) 09:00AM
San Pedro Sula (SAP) 09:30AM Belize City (BZE) 10:30AM
Days: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays

San Pedro Sula flights are bookable via the web at www.tropicair.com, via e-mail at reservations@tropicair.com or by phone at 226-2012. There is an introductory offer of US$99 each way plus taxes for the month of March. Please call our reservations department for the details, terms, conditions and restrictions.

Tropic Air operates a fleet of 11 aircraft (including the lastest generation, G1000 “glass cockpit”, air conditioned Cessna Caravans) to 14 destinations in Belize, Guatemala & Honduras.

from a friend....

I did that route a few years back in my old adventure days on something that looked like a twin engine school bus with wings and a rear cargo hatch. We entered through a side hatch that had spider cracks emanating from around the frame and inside there was more duct tape than you could shake a stick at. We never did gain a whole lot of altitude(wasn't going to ask the only pilot why), but we were distracted by the beauty below. We flew over lots of coastline, Roatan(that might have been a landmark for no GPS )and then turned west and then along the S coast of Bze. You see the mountains to the West, we could go from side to side as the plane maybe had 30 seats and only about 10 on the flight.

If the flights were to be going that close to Roatan, is there any reason that they couldn't start running flights direct to Roatan and back? I could really get on board for that itinerary.

I have the same interest, I was excited to hear that Tropic was now flying to Honduras, but disappointed it was landing so far away from Utila and Roatan with no convenient way to get to either from Sula.

Elbert, aren't there domestic flights from San Pedro Sula to Roatan (and perhaps Utila)? I've just returned from Roatan and was told by a fellow diver, who'd just flown in, that there are regular flights from La Ceiba. He and I speculated, that if there are flights from La Ceiba, there may also be flights from San Pedro Sula. The flight from La Ceiba was only slightly more than the ferry . . . that juice is definitely worth the squeeze. Hmmm . . what to do? $30+ for a 4 hour ferry crossing or $45 for a 1/2 hour flight? I know which I'd pick.

Still if Tropic flight to SPS and domestic flights start to add up, then it is almost easier for me to book and route back through Houston to do a Belize/Roatan back to back (which I've done in the past).

I have to fly into La Ceba, spend the night and then catch a boat to Utila.
The flights to Utila are charter. If i fly into Roatan I still need to boat to Utila.
long route for a place so close.
Last time i chartered a flight out of Utila with a crop duster in the middle of a revolution that had the army closing the airports and under declared martial law,we kept it at 200 feet weveing between the mountains to be under radar but thats a story for another time:-)

Sounds like an exciting story! In any event, you have also successfully explained my story, with regard to why I haven't yet been to Utila, despite my many trips to Roatan. Once I'm on Roatan, I'm ready to dive. I've already had quite a long trip by then. No interest in a 4 hour boat trip over and another 4 hours back. That said, I've heard some wonderful things about Utila, mostly with regard to the village in comparison to West End. Many divers tell me that they are happier with or at least just as happy with the diving out of West End.
