Following on February’s concert in San Pedro featuring The Garifuna Collective, Stonetree Records and Sundiver Beach are excited to announce that Belize’s internationally-acclaimed musical ambassadors will be returning to the island on Saturday, April 21st with a couple of very special guests for an afternoon/evening of great music and dance. AURELIO MARTINEZ - Celebrated singer, composer, and guitarist from Honduras, Aurelio has been a major figure in Garifuna music for decades, having entertained audiences in over 20 countries with his unique Paranda style and incredible stage energy. If you had the opportunity to see Aurelio headline Carnegie Hall in NYC last October you know you do not want to miss this opportunity to see him perform live, at Sundiver Beach. The title track on Aurelio’s critically acclaimed 2011 album Laru Beya literally means “By the Beach” in his Garifuna mother tongue. (www.stonetreerecords.com)

DANNY MICHEL - This enormously entertaining singer/songwriter/guitarist from Canada currently is working on a new record in Belize featuring The Garifuna Collective to be released later this year. With a few Juno nominations and about eight solo albums to his credit “His honest and straight-forward lyrics, earnest live performances and witty stage banter have earned him a devoted global fan base. If you’ve seen Danny live in concert, you’re probably already a fan. If you haven’t, you're missing out on “One of Canada’s undiscovered musical treasures” (Toronto Star). (www.dannymichel.com)

Aurelio Martinez and the Garifuna Collective perform at Sundiver Resort

Aurelio Martinez, Honduran Garifuna musician extraordinaire performed to the delight of many on the beach at Sundiver Beach Resort. Accompanied by the Garifuna Collective, Martinez sang in his distinctive voice, beautiful ballads and infectiously rhythmic Punta/Paranda jams that had the crowd moving. Electric and acoustic guitars, Garifuna drumbeats, the shake-shake of maracas and the voices clear into the night – it was a fantastic evening of music and culture.

Opening the evening’s event was Canadian singer/songwriter Danny Michel, who has been traveling to Belize for the past six years. Michel had the crowd singing along; especially to his Caye Caulker based song “Wish Willy”. Adding to the vibe was Aurelio on the drums, and Stonetree Records’ Ivan Duran on guitar.

After a short intermission, the Garifuna Collective launched into their beautiful, soul-stirring rendition of songs that catapulted them into the world stage. Two extremely talented ladies led in vocals, while guitar and drums resonated, fusing to one harmonious melody that had everyone on their feet. After an emotional, beautiful rendition of “Watina”, it was time to groove on with faster paced, equally wonderful songs. In no time whatsoever, it was time for intermission and the long-awaited performance by Aurelio Martinez.
