As part of the cultural exchange program between Mexico and Belice, the Mexican Embassy will present two piano concerts by Mexican musician Alejandrina Villamil.

The first concert will be held at the Bliss Centre in Belize City, on Saturday April 21st at 6:00 pm. The second concert will take place at the George Price Centre in Belmopan, on Sunday April 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Entrance will be FREE for both events and open to the general public.

The renowned pianist Alejandrina Villamil was born in Merida, Mexico. She began her musical studies at the young age of 8. She later joined the National Centre of Fine Arts, thereafter she entered the "José Jacinto Cuevas" Music Centre in Merida. Then she joined the Children and Youth Orchestra of Mexico (OSIM).

In 2008 she became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Yucatan. Next year, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, she participated in the Chamber Music Festival. In 2010, Alejandrina took the master course "Zentral Musik" with pianist Van Den Hoek Martyn and in November of the same year she was a finalist in the "José Jacinto Cuevas" National Contest in Mexico.

In March 2011 she participated in the Chamber Music course taught by musicians of the "Carnegie Hall" Program in New York and in the course "Centre d'Arts Orford” in Quebec, Canada, with the renowned pianist Jean Saulnier.

Currently, she lives in Merida where continues her studies with Master Maria Eli Sosa at the School of Arts of Yucatan.

Alejandrina has selected outstanding works of international piano repertoire for both concerts.

The recitals are, as well, sponsored by the National Institute for Culture and History of Belize (NICH), the George Price Centre for Peace and Development and the Mexican Embassy.

And if reggae or Punta are not quite your thing, this weekend, then maybe classical is….renowned Mexican pianist, Alejandrina Villamil, will be performing in Belize as part of the cultural exchange program with Mexico. For the recital, Villamil has selected pieces from composers such as Mozart, Bach and Chopin. Press officer for the Mexican Embassy, Marcelino Miranda, told us more about this young musician and the music that she will be performing.

"Alejandrina Villamil is a young Mexican pianist. She has performed in Mexico and she has had an education and she has been taking courses with great pianists, not only from Mexico but from North America and Europe."

"She is going to present a very interesting program among other pieces of piano that she is going to present from musicians like Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov. This is going to be a good concert because that would give the opportunity especially for young people and children to come and enjoy a piano concert. This is part of the cultural exchange program between Mexico and Belize and one of the purposes is to promote music in Belize. That's the reason the embassy decided to invite Alejandrina Villamil to perform here in Belize."

The first concert will be held at the Bliss Centre in Belize City on Saturday evening, and the second will be on Sunday at the George Price Centre in Belmopan. Both concerts are free, and begin at 6:00. Everyone is welcomed to attend.
