The speed bumps, sensibly, do not extend to the middle of the street where the rain-drain is.
This gap is barely (but sufficiently)wide enough to let a golf cart pass. I observed carts going in both directions aiming for these central no-bump spaces ..... it slows them down which is great, but I think we'll have a few slow-speed fender benders with everybody heading to the middle of the street in order to avoid the sleeping policemen. For sure, the maniac motorcycles which are the worst offenders, can get through the middle gap. They'll probably hit it wrong sometimes and kiss some concrete though.

The real problem is speeding and the bumps are supposed to control that but they really tear up equipment. I think we need to legislate the radar gun and catch speeders and allow "legal" traffic to go through unhindered. Fine some of these speeders. I saw three separate children in front of drivers of motorcycles yesterday and none of the children wore helmets all children were in the "air bag" position. One was the police.

I also think the traffic dept should do more when they check vehicles for safety, I have seen lots of vehicles that are clearly unsafe on the road, it is only a matter of time before someone gets injured by a vehicle with it body panels flapping in the breeze. You cannot test a vehicle for safety on the side of a street, as they do now, the average test takes less that 3 minutes and all they check is lights and horn and the frame number. With the amount of vehicles on our streets it is time that the laws that are in place be enforced, a large number of vehicles could be taken of the streets just for being unsafe.
