I am trying to change my name with my Belize marriage license. I have the original, but it's not "certified." How did you go about changing your name (if you did change your name)??? I understand to change with Social Security, you have to give the original copy of the license that is certified. I'm clueless!!

The original is a certified copy. It says so at the bottom of the license, if you read the fine print. No one gave me any problems using my Belize license. I got a Social Security card, new drivers license, insurance name change, and banking without any problem. (I would go directly to all of these places so that you don't have to send off the license anywhere) After I had my named changed on everything, I took my license to the court records office and had them file it in our county as a public record. They scanned it and filed it and gave me the original back. Now, if I ever need a certified copy, I can get it from them without having to deal with the Belize government.

Wonderful! Thanks! I'm on my way to the Social Security and DPS offices now. You're a life-saver!

Turnbun -
I am so lazy, I haven't changed a thing!
I have an AMEX in my married name and that's all that seems to matter to me! [Linked Image]
I plan to change it, if I ever happen to pass the DMV!!

Nicki's advice was perfect. I just took the original license to the DMV and social security offices, and they asked no questions (except, where is this license from? never seen one like it - DUH it says BELIZE right on top of the paper). Then I have been using my drivers license to change my bank account, etc. Easy as pie!

Hey!
How do you like the spinster classification?

Anyone ask you about that?

They have me on video going..."Hey! Nobody told me it was going to say that!"

I guess our new husbands should be appreciated - they saved us from being old spinsters! I wonder if USA licenses say the same thing?? I thought it was pretty funny....

I thought the same thing when I saw "spinster" written on the license. I thought, "Hey, I'm not that old yet!"
