We have sold our home and will have a lot of clothing to dispose of. If you know of anyone or a charity who could use them, I will box them up for you.

There is a used-clothing store in Belize City that donates the proceeds to the needy/street people.
I can't remember the name ...... maybe TacoGirl can assist via her contacts with Red Cross.

If you opt for Cayo Route it could be sent to Belmopan on Tropic.

Mama Vilma's home on the island is taking clothing. Currently this is where we are giving the clothing donations we get at the San Pedro Branch of Belize Red Cross.

My husband and I are looking to start a business in San Pedro. I am thinking a non-profit thrift store with the proceeds to be divided among the various charities on the island. Is there any need for such a business? Other ideas would be welcome.

I think it's a wonderful idea. People are always asking where to donate things, and a central spot where money would go to various worthy charities would be convenient and helpful.

Don't forget work permits.
Starting a non-profit business here is a bit more onerous than in many other countries. http://zunia.org/uploads/media/knowledge/NGO-law.pdf
You might want to go with a regular for-profit business - what you do with your money is your own affair but certainly donating it to charities will build good will and, probably, business.
