I'm getting ready for a longer (6-12 months) trip to San Pedro, and am wondering what to do about my prescription meds. My insurer only provides 90 days at a time.

1. If the insurer mailed the meds to me in SP, how likely would I be to receive them?

2. Can I fill common US prescriptions there at a reasonable price?

3. Other suggestions?

Hi Cleanhead,

We moved here almost two years ago with the same concerns. I have someone in the States pick up and mail me my prescriptions every 90 days. They arrive at the San Pedro post office, and I don't have to pay duty on them because they are prescriptions. I have tried getting my meds filled here, which is easy, but you just can't beat the $10 for 90 days WalMart prices in the States. Either way, the choice is yours, but getting your meds won't be difficult.

I have the same situation. My pharmacist was able to get the cost approved when he explained the situation to the insurance company. When that doesn't work, I get generic meds in Belize at not too much more costs than my co-payment.
Unless you need unusual drugs, they should be available. Whoops, I meant unusual medications. All other usual and unusual "drugs" are probably available. wink

Thanks Laura G & bywarren. I'll relax about that now.
