We moved to Belize with my 82 year old mom. She began to suffer dementia after arriving and steadily grew worse. We hired the most wonderful loving Belizean woman to care for my mom full time. She recieved better care than any system in the US. When she became bed ridden we set up a room just for her and had our lady who we called Miss Les, move in full time. There is great respect in Belize for the elderly and she spent her days with her family being loved until the day she passed.

I also had a mother with demensia, at age 84 I had to put her in a nursing home as I had two young children and had to work, my husband also disabled. She went down hill rather quickly being in the home. I wish I had been able to bring her here. She would have done much better. I could have afforded a care giver of quality, I think that you may do well with her here. You may consider coming and getting where you will live and who and what you would need to care for her here, trying to get things like that set up could be stressful for your Mom. Folks with demensia do suffer from stress, sitting and watching the Caribbean Sea is a much better life than looking at Hospital walls. For both of you. Best of luck to you.

Another vote for an assisted living center. Watching the sea, listening to the birds and talking to local people will replace a lot of drugs.

Hey yall had to join when i saw this publication. Was in San Pedro a couple of weeks ago and was trying to think of a way to move to the cayes. My husband has been in the medical field for 25 years working in Los Angeles at the AMR Ambulance Company. We would be very interested for any information leading to a solution to your situation.

Research assisted living business plans and see if you can figure out one that could work. Nobody here seems to have the formula but it's a project we'd welcome.

You'll need the plan, the resources, the property and the commitment and capacity to stay here and stay in business for a lifetime (at least that of your guests!). Doubtful anybody will make a move into a facility that may not be around for the long haul.

An alternative might be be a "Home Instead" sort of thing in a rental-apartment style complex. Again - the longevity of the business is the key - somehow I doubt a newcomer can plead that case compellingly. If you are serious then find a local businessperson with serious roots, some means and a passion for your project - team up with them and maybe you'll find a way to make it happen.

There are some old age home projects, who are working quite well around some countries in providing their servisesto the seniors at some reasonable prices. Which needs to be implemented such projects in other countries also. So, that seniors could get some assisted living facilities everywhere around the globe.
