Whether you run an ecommerce store or website, or you regularly post marketing material on social networking profiles and blogs, or use your internet for any other activity, it is important that your host offers a high speed internet speed connection otherwise, you will waste time and effort trying to keep everything up to date while battling with slow page loads.

Here in Belize there are a number of internet providers to choose from but there are several standout features you should look out for if you are about to launch online operations, or if you are on the hunt for a more reliable network.

First and foremost, a hosting company that owns its own fibre-optic network - therefore resulting in dedicated internet access with low latency and zero downtime, with no sharing - should be high up your agenda, if not at the top. And that is where Centaur Communications Corporation Limited comes in. For more than 6 years Centaur, which now owns its own fiber optic network, has been providing internet access to its customers and recently they have upgraded their service offering faster internet speed at incredible low rates.

John Briceno- Director, Centaur Communications Corporation Limited

"We are very proud of about our company, we are constantly innovating and finding ways how we can better serve our customers, we are proud about the work and what we do and the service that we provide to our customers. For some time we have been providing internet service but we are trying to find a way how is it that we could make it more accessible to the Belizean public, to our customers, how we can make it cheaper. Well, today we are very proud to announce that we have reduced the prices for internet substantially for instance we are starting as low as $35 per month; you can get 256 kilobytes per second for only $35. That would make internet service accessible not only to the few but to the many to anybody that would want to provide internet to their children and or their families. We have the 512k that is only $60 a month and now we are very proud to announce that the 1Megabyte it is only $100 for the very first time in the history of this country you can get for as low as $100 per month and then 2Megs for $200 per month."

The advantages that Centaur's Express Internet Service has over its competitors are many, according to the Director of Centaur Communications Corporation Limited, John Briceno.

"We believe that we have several advantages over other competition, for instance we are saying we don't have no hidden fees the price that we give you is the price that you are going to pay, we do not require any contracts, you signed up with us and every month you pay with us without having to signed a one year or two year contract and no deposits just signed the installation form and the service and get the service immediately and it is easy to access the service in Ladyville, in Corozal and here in Orange Walk. And it does not ends there it get even better, starting now and all the way to the end of December we are giving a free installation so any person that would like our internet service all they need to know is to come to our offices and signed up free installation between now and the end of December. Those that even don't have cable with us that they can still apply to get this service and we will be more than happy to provide them with Centaurs Express High Speed Internet Service."

Customers in Ladyville who wish to sign up can do so by visiting Centaurs Office located at Ramons Plaza, in Corozal we are located at number 59 4th Avenue and in Orange Walk you can sign up at Shell One Stop.

Centaur Cable Introduces Cheaper Internet Rates for Belize

Earlier this year on September 27, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology and Public Utilities, Joy Grant unveiled the ministry's strategic plan. In essence, the information presented was that Belize is behind other countries in the region when it comes to Science and Technology and there was a call for more to be done in this fast pace sector of development. One of these areas was internet availability to Belizeans, especially the affordability of the service. Following this, at the beginning of the month Prime Minister Barrow announced that BTL will be doubling internet speed they offer to customers, and at the same time cutting the prices by half. Well, it seems the game is on as two days ago, Centaur Communications Ltd from Orange Walk has announced it will also be doubling its internet speed and lowering the price for it, lower than what BTL offers. Centaur Communications Ltd is a cable company owned by PUP Orange Walk Central Area Representative, John Briceno and his brother Jaime. We caught up with Briceno this morning who told us more.

"All along when we were providing the internet services we were unable to really bring down the price but now that we have another source of buying bandwidth which we are doing now through Speednet, the prices have went down tremendously and because the prices have went down tremendously we want to pass on that savings to our customers and at the same time we want to make internet affordable to as many people as possible. The internet services have become something that is necessary, it's needed in every household, and every student that goes to high school will tell you that they need access to the internet. The investment has been big because what we had to do was to get more servers, bigger servers, so that they can provide higher speeds. We have been extending or expanding our fiber optic network because with the fiber optic has a back bone so that we can provide a more stable signal to our customers so we have been investing in that we have been extending more the 500 cables as much as we can. So we have been doing quite a sizeable investment. What has happened now is that Speednet corporation is buying their own internet, they are getting their bandwidth which is what you need for the internet and they have been buying their services from a Mexican company and because now that they are no longer buying from BTL they are buying directly from a Mexican company the prices have gone down tremendously. We as a company, Centaur have decided to buy bandwidth from Speednet and they have given us a pretty good price and we belief that since we have gotten that price we need to pass on the savings back to the customers and that is why we have decided to reduce the prices because we can afford it. We as a company could have decided that we were going to keep all the extra savings but we believe differently."

The lowest speed, 256 kilobits is being offered 35 dollars monthly while one megabit is now for 100 dollars with no extra fee. A survey of the Caribbean conducted earlier this year showed that Belize's internet rates and speed are among the highest and lowest respectively in the region. Briceno's Centaur Communication Ltd has a network that extends from Ladyville to the Corozal Free Zone, accordingly, it has thousands of customers connected to the cable network. At the moment the company is offering free installation until the end of the year.
