Getting a medical license that is transferred and accepted here is a whole different issue and involves the Belize Medical Board.

Correct!

A work permit and a private practice medical license in Belize are two completely seperate issues.

The Belize Medical Board currently does not allow US doctors to obtain a private practice license in Belize. We can come work in a government run clinic for free but we cannot legally open our own fee for service clinic.

Belize-N-Us, I was going to drop you a note. Some of these issues have changed significantly recently.

Thanks Amanda, I had pretty much given up on getting my private practice license there. The board already has all my credentials or at least they should still have them.

I can send them all again if needed.

I also paid my "licensing fee" which I assume at this point went into someone's pocket and not to the Belize Medical Board?????

That is an assumption, not an accusation of any wrong doing / corruption for those of you here who like to stir the pot!

All I know is that I did all that I was asked to do in order to get a private license but all I was told I got was permission to volunteer in a government run clinic. I never even got that in writting, that was verbally told to me over the phone by a lady who works for the Belize Medical Board.

I look foward to hearing about these recent changes!

Is there a med school back in Belize now? Maybe I could teach at the school?
