Did they cobblestone the bridge deck?

Hmm? Shouldn't they rebuild/repair the bridge first?
A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Last time I was on it, there was plywood covering some of the holes. Cobblestones, not so much. It's not the London Bridge.

I don't think cobblestones were ever an option. Where did you get that idea?

I think if you covered it in cobblestone...you would find it at the bottom of the cut in no time.
She wasn't designed for that weight. Or for trucks..or for taxi's...or for.........

The bridge was inspected by engineers about a year ago and the structure was found to be fine. This was reported here and in the papers. About two years ago I was interested in the structure and actually took a look at it below the surface while it was open for repairs. I'm not a structural engineer but have inspected enough of large mechanical devices to plainly recognize excessive corrosion or distortion of the metal if it was there. I did not see any although I didn't crawl along each structural member. This surprised me somewhat after seeing the heavy loads that have used the bridge. In my mind the bridge was designed to carry much heavier loads than I thought. I'll have to assume that the earlier restrictions where more political than practical. The plan was a year ago to put a concrete surface on the bridge. This has not been done and of course the surface covering of the walkway and roadway are in terrible shape. Hopefully the concrete or in the very least a new surface will be placed on the bridge because it looks terrible in the state it is in.

And of course they never bothered to repair/replace the pedestrian crossing on the east side of the bridge. When we asked about this about a year or so ago, we were told that the repair materials were on order!

Last I heard from Town Board it was to be done in a sturdy fake wood type surface for the main part of the bridge that was months ago.
