5 of us are going down on Dec.28-Jan4.I remember reading , someone packed frozen meat ,roast. Are you allowed to bring in food like that? WE are staying at a home and 3 will not eat fish, they will swim with them but will not eat them!Any suggestions on what we should and should not take?? With the extra security at the airports I don't want any problems. Thanks for any help.

do a search (above, right). there was a thread called 'where's the beef' some time ago that addressed all the particulars.

don't forget lots of ziplocs. you will use them!

We went to AC a year ago in September (of course pre September 11th), but we could have brought in anything...no search what so ever. We are going back in March 2002 and will bring in frozen food. Go for it!

It used to be fine to bring in meat as long as it was in the original package with USDA stickers, but with the mad cow scare, beef and other meat products are being looked at carefully and may be confiscated by customs if your luggage is opened, or you may be asked what you are bringing in that you want to declare and then you'll have to say what you are bringing (or face the music).

All in all, why worry about schlepping stuff like that thousands of miles when you can buy most anything you want in San Pedro? The beef in groceries will not be up to U.S. standards, but the chicken and some of the other meats are fine and some of it is better than what you get in the U.S. as it lacks all the chemicals and antibiotics American producers use.
