Hi all new to the forum and we are wondering about your recommendations for the best beach for swimming. We are staying about two miles north of town and only been here a day so just getting our bearings. Would love to go further north to see more of the island.

Go all the way up to Tranquility Bay resort. The best beach anywhere. Snorkel from shore and only about 100 yards to the reef. About15 miles north of town.

Travelin man is correct but be prepared to pay more than 100.us to just get there. No road to it, the only way in is by boat that cost big bucks because of high fuel cost on the island.
In reality, because of the islands typography it has no nice beaches regardless of what marketing and public relations hype would have you believe. Because of the reef being in front of the island the waves break out there and the shoreline of Ambergris Caye is the shore of an inter lagoon. Tranquility Bay is where the reef begins to meet the shore line and the inter lagoon is waning at that point. Locals joke and say 'God said you can have Reef or you can have Beaches and we said Reef'.

We are north of town. We are looking for Swimming access with the least amount of grass. Fully understand and appreciate the topography of the island just looking for a place to take a dip other than off the dock.

Scotia, you guys are good sports. When you find a magic beach, I really look forward to your post about it. :-)

Well said Elbert. One thing though, Call the resort and see if you can go up for the day. They have a bar and restaurant and a boat that goes to town and back on a fairly regular basis. I am sure that you can make arrangements with them

Mata Chica and Rojo Lounge have a nice beach. Tranquility Bay is awesome and the water in front of the old Belize Legacy Resort is incredible.

What happened to the road to Tranquility Bay?
