Any thoughts out there on this program. Is it worth the money? I know you don't have to renew your visa every month and can ship items from the US duty free i think up to 15,000. Any other benefits??? I know some people hire lawyers and some that have filled out the paperwork themselves. Would it be worth it to hire a lawyer? Anyone who has been through this, i would appreciate your honest thoughts.
Thanks!!!!!

This was just talked about. Look up QRP vs PR

The QRP program is one of the best of its kind and actually very simple. The folks at the BTB office are very helpful. If you are not in a hurry you should do it on your owe if you are in a hurry then hire someone to work with you.

The major benefits to the program are that you are allowed to import your personal belongings and household goods duty and tax free along with a boat and a car. If you plan on living here and you have a home/condo here then this makes sense. Spending $24,000.00 BZD on an annual basis is not very hard here so it should not be an issue.

The major issue with the QRP for some folks is that you can not work here. There are some exceptions but for the most part it is for folks not looking to work.

We assist our clients in getting filing for this but if you have some questions we would be happy to at least point you in the right direction.

Me too. And the application process isn't at all difficult. I took care of it myself and from submission of application (OK it took a little while to assemble the necessary back up eg criminal record report, financial stability, etc) to be granted acceptance took 6 weeks. http://www.abelizehomeforus.wordpress.com

The one thing to remember is that if you come in under this program, volunteer work is considered work. So you are somewhat limited in that respect. There are areas that are exempted but just be aware

The requirement is that a retiree must have a certified income of $24,000USD (from a variety of allowable source), not that the individual, or couple, have to spend it here (Please reference the Qualified Retired Persons Incentive Act passed by the Belize legislature in 1999).

I am in this program and they make you prove every year that you have brought a minimum of $24,000 USD into the country. No you don't have to prove how you or even that you did spend it but you must bring that amount into the country and not just have that much as income. I have been in this program for six years and have had to prove it each year.
