I have been following this notice board since it opened, at first it was full of useful information and fascinating stories, but now it has become a board for a few to whine and bitch about Belize.

I am proud to be a naturalized Belizean, having come to Belize almost 30 years ago. I love Belize and its people. I choose to live here rather than my home country. Belize is Belize, It is not the USA or Canada or even the UK, so why do people come to live in Belize and then bitch and complain about the country. Belize is not perfect, nowhere is, every country has its faults, every country has its crime and every country has its corruption.

Some people decide to move to Belize from their country because of various reasons, they buy land, build and make themselves a home, and then start to bitch about the roads and the crime and the dogs and the corruption and the heat and the mosquitoes and everything else they can find to complain about.

People it was all here when you first visited Belize!!!!!!!!! If you did not know what Belize was like before you moved here, more fool you?

Belize will not change because a few whining “Gringo’s” do not like something, it will only change when Belizeans want it too, it’s their country they will change it not us. Instead of trying to live in this country as Belizeans do, some try to bring their home country here, it will not and should not work.

I have also noticed that some of the people who write on the board expressing their opinions about what is going on here, on Ambergris Caye, don’t even live here, but they feel they have a right to rant about things going on here.

Our SPTC is trying to improve the town and island for EVERYONE but some (not all) foreigners don’t like the changes, because it might disturb their little piece of paradise, the work being done by the SPTC is for everyone, not the elite few.

For example, the road clearing north of the bridge, some people started complaining that it was illegal and destroying their property, the facts were that fences and boundaries built by the home owners were in fact built on public ground. Also some of those complaining are only here part time, the rest of the time their homes or condos are rented out, I hope those people are following the law by having the correct licenses and declare all income earned from these rentals to the BTB.

The latest rants were about the bridge, some wanted it closed for good as it allows free access to the north for all, there were also complaints about the tolls charged and that the pull ferry should be brought back, while the bridge was closed the ferry did return, charging $5.00 each way (same as the toll), also some of these people complaining about the bridge were happy to use the bridge to transport their building materials while building their homes, and one person even complained to the past administration when the bridge closed for repairs as she had to use the barges to ship her materials.

Just read the post “Dogs, Dogs, Dogs” and you will see what I am saying, a bad incident with a dog and a person (sorry to the guy that was bitten) has developed into a full scale slanging match involving some people not even on the island.

If you are planning to visit Belize you will find a beautiful country with warm welcoming people, if you live here, chill out or if you really do not like what happens here, Flights leave every day.

Well that’s my “rant” like it or not it is how I feel, I am sure the vast majority of expats will agree to some if not all I have said. I am just tired of a few trying to cloak Ambergris Caye under a negative blanket.

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

Thank you for posting Tracker. I don't live on the island although I do own two properties there. I do not feel I have a right to complain about that which I know nothing about. I applaud you for pointing out how some of the threads have devolved into personal attacks and opportunities to rant. I read these boards for information to plan my upcoming trip. I need to know the condition of the road. I don't need to know how many feet of clearing of somebody's property may or may not have been infringed upon.

I have also noticed that the Ambergris Caye Message board gets very few new posts and topics in the last six or so months. I always check since I come down twice a year. I like to know the latest news, events, crime stats, traffic rules and enforcement, bridge closures, etc for my next trip. I'm still looking for tips on restaurants and tours each time I go. These are becoming rare.

Perhaps a visitor board and resident board could be set up. Marty?

Civility is not something only practiced in our personal interactions. It should be a part of message boards as well.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I especially like your comment about planes leaving every day.

Agree but doesn't mean implants don't have something to offer including ideas and constructive criticisms. All to often these are brushed off with the "I a Belizean. If you noh de like it go bak to......."

I don't post often but I am passionate about San Pedro. Tracker, I agree. Phil, I also agree that "implants" have things to offer. I have been coming to San Pedro since 2004 (many times several times a year) and plan to move there once I retire (~3-5 years from now... Sounds like a prison sentence but I digress.). My goal is to blend in and offer my abilities in whatever way the community thinks I can be of value. I have tried to start doing that from afar (Tennessee) and while there. I simply want to contribute and make positive contributions (no matter where I am). I love San Pedro and want the best for it and her citizens. Can't wait to be there full time.

Sounds like you'll fit in as well, or better, than many. Look forward to meeting you.
