The Belize Police Department today released the comparative crime statistics for the first 5 months of the year indicating that major crimes are down compared to the same period in 2012. According to the statistics there were 51 murders between January and May this year, which is 9 less that in 2012. There were 12 rapes (14 in 2012); 117 robberies (there were 216 in 2012); 403 burglary cases (470 in 2012); 394 theft cases, which is one more than in 2012. Carnal knowledge cases more than doubled with 39 reported between January and May this year, compared to 17 in 2012. During the comparative period there were 88 shooting incidences this year, which is down from 117 between January and May, 2012.
