Have you noticed the Mosquitos are already out! Here is a homemade trap to help keep you and the kiddos from being a blood donor!!!

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP:
Items needed:
1 cup of water
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
1 2-liter bottle

HOW:
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.)

Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.

Probably good to remember to place the trap significantly away from where you hang out --- have seen folks set up mossie catchers near their homes and they have ended up with more bugs in the area than less - bugs do end up dead, but tend to be in your face on the way to the trap.

I made one a week ago and it only trapped a couple of beetles and fruit flies. Not a single mosquito was caught although it was placed in an area buzzing with them.
I wasn't too hopeful that it would work but thought it was worth a try anyhow...
The commercial traps that use propane work well.

I can understand what attracts them but don't understand what kills them. Answer anyone?

Well, I made 2 of these and have really been able to "put them to the test" the last couple of days. I even used yeast nutrient to keep the yeast going.

Result: Nada/ Nothing / FAIL!
