Instead of freaking out on what could have been some bad publicity for Belize, the BTB took the initiative to put a positive spin on the buzz that the show created for the country. On last week Sunday's episode (August 18, 2013) of Breaking Bad one of the characters suggested sending another character on a "trip to Belize" which was intended as a euphemism to have him murdered. Not quite the best image that we want painted of our country.

It is not the best picture to link Belize to murder, but we all know how beautiful our country is and how amazing we are as a people. So on Thursday, August 22, 2013, the Belize Tourism Board sent out an invitation to the staff and creators of Breaking Bad to a relaxing four-day, three-night tropical vacation including airfare, hotel, meals and other activities.

Belize Tourism Board invites Breaking Bad cast to visit after Sunday night's diss

The Belize Tourism Board has offered a free trip to the cast of Breaking Bad, after the show referenced the Central American country in a rather unflattering way. Now, for those of you yet to catch up on Sunday night's episode you may want to skip this next part. In the episode, Saul Goodman asks meth-manufacturer Walter White if he had thought about sending a nosey federal agent "on a trip to Belize," reminding White of another agent who 'relocated' there (really White murdered said investigator). An agitated White then says: "I'll send you to Belize."

"Some people may have perceived that to be somewhat of a crisis," Alyssa Carnegie, the director of marketing and industry relations for the Belize Tourism Board, told the New York Times. "But we really thought of it as an opportunity."

An opportunity indeed. The Belize Tourism Board immediately sent the cast invitations to visit via Twitter. It then then took out a colourful ad - in the form of an invitation - via a blog the New York Times describing the activities the group could do should they visit.

It might not work as product placement, but the Belize Tourism Bureau invited the cast to recover from the stress of filming. To show they at least know what Breaking Bad fans like (if not showing that they're actually fans) they added, "We have the Blue Hole for Walt, purple fish for Marie, geology for Hank, great music and friendly people for Jesse, delicious breakfast cuisine for Walt Jr., several nice locations to swim for Skylar, colorful clothing for Saul, and the list goes on."

"Despite what Saul meant when he suggested that Walt send Hank 'on a trip to Belize,' we were flattered to be included on your program last Sunday," the invitation reads. "While we hope that some of our favorite characters don't get 'sent on a trip to Belize' in the show, we do hope that you will take us up on the following offer -- we'd like to send all of you on an ACTUAL trip to our country after the season is over."
