The National Emergency Management Organization hereby informs the general public that heavy rainfall from Tropical Wave is causing localized flooding across the country. NEMO is monitoring and responding to affected areas.

In the Orange Walk District, San Lazaro, Guinea Grass, San Lorenzo, Trial Farm, San Antonio, Carmelita and New Housing Area are experiencing flooding situations. The San Antonio/Yo Creek Road is closed to vehicular traffic.

In the Toledo District, waters along the Blue Creek Jordan Road is rising. Other surrounding villages are advised that river levels are rising across the District.

River levels in the Cayo and Belize Districts are rising.

District Emergency Committees are activated in Orange Walk, Toledo, Belize Rural and Cayo Districts.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving on the highways and secondary roads. Do not cross flooded areas. People in those affected areas are advised to seek safe shelter from flood waters.

Rains are expected to continue today and over the next forty eight (48) hours. NEMO is on full alert and advises to call your local NEMO offices for information; for emergency call the NEMO hotline at 936.

NEMO PUBLIC ADVISORY 2

The National Emergency Management Organization hereby informs the general public that heavy rainfall from Tropical Wave is causing localized flooding across the country. NEMO is monitoring and responding to affected areas. Rains are expected to continue today and over the next forty eight (48) hours.

In the Orange Walk District:

  • Water have receded in Tower Hill, Chan Pine Ridge and Carmelita Village
  • The San Antonio/Yo Creek Road is closed to vehicular traffic.
  • 1/2 Mile before August Pine Ridge, bridge is impassable and closed to vehicular traffic.
  • Six (6) families were evacuated from Guinea Grass and are sheltering in Apostolic Church.
  • Four (4) families were evacuated from San Lorenzo and are sheltering in the Orange Walk Multi Purpose Building.
  • Ten (10) families were evacuated from Carmelita and are sheltering in the Community Center.
  • Several people from Trial Farm and San Lorenzo refuse to move to safety even after NEMO Orange Walk advise them to move.
  • NEMO is responding to meet the needs of the people in Shelters. In the Stann Creek District:
  • North Stann Creek is receding
In the Toledo District:
  • The Blue Creek/ Jordan Road is impassable and closed to vehicular traffic.
  • The Water is entering the Village of Jordan. BDF in Blue Creek is on standby to respond to flooding in Jordan.
  • The Other surrounding villages are advised that river levels are rising across the District.
  • Moho River continues to rise.
The District Emergency Committees that were activated this morning have been stood down, except for Orange Walk and Toledo Districts, who remains on full activation.

Motorists are advised to continue to exercise extreme caution when driving on the highways and secondary roads. Do not cross flooded areas. People in those affected areas are advised to seek safe shelter from flood waters. There are reports of water running across the road at miles 38 & 39 on the Northern Highway drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution whilst driving.

The District Emergency Committees for Orange Walk and Toledo Districts remain on full alert.
