My wife and I just got home from 6 days of a really good vacation. The staff was really great, the grounds were well kept, the restaurant was good ,the diving was great steve at the dive shop was great. The cabanas were kinda a little on the rundown side though, we were in cabana 1 on the beach and the bathroom was in need of some new interior walls/tile/grout ,It was functional but not very attractive we ran out of hot water twice I thought this was odd because there were only 4 or 5 other huts occupied but it wasnt a big deal.we also had a bout with a scorpion in the room while packing to leave. But by then I was too shook up about what happened with HUSTLER TOURS just before that to care.

DIVESHOP AND DIVING A+
STAFF A+
RESTAURANT A-
GROUNDS A-
ROOMS C-
OVERALL A VERY GOOD VACATION EXCEPT FOR THE (LAST DAY)

TO MANAGEMENT IF YOU WOULD SINK A LITTLE MONEY INTO YOUR ROOMS I THINK YOU WOULD HAVE A RESORT WORTHY OF YOUR WEBSITE

when i stayed at JE in 8/00, i felt EXACTLY the same way. i was under the impression that after the hurricane, they improved the cabanas. i guess not. i was in #8, second off the beach. i thought they would be nicer too. we saw no scorpions but had a little crab scurry across the room. "tappa, tappa, tappa!"

gotta say - i warned y'all about the water thing.

i agreed about the grounds & staff. very pleased with those. scuba steve was terrific too, frank loved all his dives.

oh, and on my return, i said the same thing to jonathan about putting more $$ into the rooms and respecting the terrific staff more, and that i thought if they did they would have a first rate place too.

but it has fallen on deaf ears. see, jonathan, it wasn't just me. if you want your place to be recommended more, gotta take care of the rooms & the staff.

you could potentially have a gold mine there.

In all honesty, it's not Jonathan's fault. I went thru exactly the same thing when I worked for JE. People keep making up these excuses that we are fixing the rooms up, stuff is on order, problems getting items into the country, the excuses go on and on. Unfortunately Jonathan, like me, is the front guy... taking the brunt of the frustration... the owners never get to talk to the guests. Jonathan, you do not even have to reply to my post... you KNOW I am telling the truth.

A few years ago it appeared that the oceanview cabanas were not going to be upgraded. The plans were at that time to build new condos on the site of the oceanviews, and rip them down. I don't know if that is still the plan but let me tell you.... It appears to me and in my own opinion, the only plan there is to try and make as much money, without making any real improvements... kinda like "let's see how far we can go until we HAVE to buy something"

I know this, all of the ex employees know this, and believe me... the present employees know this also...

Jane, the words you spoke actually also came out of my mouth to the owners in Houston... "you potentially have a gold mine there" It fell on deaf ears... over and over and over.

i did not mean to imply any fault was on jonathan at all. i hope it is not taken that way. i understand his position there (i think). and he is a nice guy.

but i wish he would print out all these posts & send them up to the big guy (who was there when i was). it is true...the rooms are only just acceptable. not in any way luxury. you expect an upgrade to be just that.

with their grounds & staff, he could really have something there, if people could only recommend it whole-heartedly.

but as it is, we can't.

I was gonna write something but changed my mind.

Actually, I do not think I am going to even write about this subject anymore. The people simply must make up their own opinion.

The only thing I will say is that I really enjoyed the employees on the property. Many of them have left now and are employeed at other places. All of us ex employees do keep in touch with each other and we have our own unofficial club. Unfortunately we can't find any of the property ex employees.
