We have been lucky enough to have spotted a number of species of snake in our own garden, including vine snakes, black racers and boas. They are incredibly beautiful, useful and important. I just wish our dogs agreed with us!

A couple of years ago some tourists spotted a snake crossing the road in front of Birdland. Instead of running over it they stopped and one of the young men picked it up. I got some good pictures (unfortunately all on the computer that was stolen). It was about 3' long and thin as a pencil. We put it in a croton bush and as it moved about it changed colors to match its surroundings.

No snake in the world changes color to match its surroundings.
