Ambergris is usually breazy or windy. I don't remember being bothered by any flying insects. I think they are more of a jungle thing.

Go back on the Belize mssg. board about to Nov 8th or so and there is ample info there.. It appears it is more of a mainland problem than a Caye problem,,they apparently are transmited by mosquitos bites,,,so any bug spray that is heavy with DET ( at least 90% ) will work ( or should ) ...But its like catching any thing else,,Sh** happens..

Dont let it scare you off, you could go to Europe and get mad cow disese, or Mexico and get the Mexican Two Step,,Inhale ,, Exhale and enjoy...

Are mosquito nets available on AC?

Rather gross and unusual bot fly infection (not for the faint of heart):

Sorry, just had to..

I've traveled many times to places with such insects (and worse) and never knew or heard of an infection. It happens though. There are many parasites out there. Hookworms exist in "clean" American beaches. Wear a hat, sunglasses, non-sweat smelling sun lotion and relax.

may is the driest month in belize so very few mosquitos. Botfly infections is a rainforest problem - and a rare one at that.

do not let the fear of a bot fly ruin a wonderful time. wear a hat and insect repellant in the jungle. it is well worth it.
