Professional, responsible, late thirties traveling from US next week and hoping to rent a small skiff to to do some fishing near shore and in the lagoon.

I'm an avid boater, have a 30 ft whaler at home. I'm not looking for anything extravagant nor do I have a need to go more than a few hundred yards off shore. Trying to avoid hiring a guide to troll me around, I prefer to fish alone and would like something with a motor as opposed to a kayak. I'm familiar with the area and the waters. Literally looking for a small skiff with an outboard.

Drop me a note if you have something you'd be willing to rent out for a day or two. Happy to pay a deposit, cash up front, bring it back filled up, buy you a beer / dinner and return the favor if you ever found yourself in my neck of the woods.

Cheers

"Trying to avoid hiring a guide to troll me around". That just pissed off about everyone on the island, good luck unless you're willing to put up a $25K deposit (in cash).

Just curious. What are the laws or rules regarding rental of a motorized boat by a person not holding a Captain's license?

Illegal. Imagine boat owner could get in trouble too.

Boat would be impounded. Owner hugely fined.

This is absolutely true, owner asked for a copy of my US Coast Guard Captains License which satisfied legal requirements.

If you don't want a potentially serious incident I'd contact The Belize Coast Guard HQ and verify that is legit and within Belize rules and regs. Just to be sure.

Call Port Authority and ask them they are the ones that deal with these issues.

Section 2.3.5 in the Belize Port Authority Mariner's Manual states that a Belize Boat Master's License is required for operation of:

Vessels involved in coastal and river service
Tug Boats
Barges
Sailing vessels
Jet ski (interesting)
Scientific research vessels
Party boats
Casino boats
Private pleasure boats
Dredges
All vessels for hire
All power driven vessels

The only exception is paddle dories or other similar craft.
