We had yesterday, at least in Belmopan, the hottest day of the year at 99°F ( 37°C ).

Due, I think, to the fire ash in the air from Guatamala, brought to us by the SW winds. Probably similar today.

102F in Spanish Lookout yesterday. Non stop lightning in the NNW distance from San Ignacio last night, but still no rain. frown

From Belmopan... 08:00 BZT

No rain within about 400 km right now, but there was in Guatamala and Mexico last night, even near Cayo.

Looks like the Pacific SW wind blocking the Caribbean wind. . . .I can't see any effect from that marked cold front, is it real or imaginary. ?

We had the hottest day yesterday, 99°F, but earlier in the year than usual. .. .

And last night was the hottest night for a long time, it was 79°F

Cold front approaches, temperatures to cool down

The weather has been on the HOT side in the last week or so, with temperatures in the low to upper 90's. But the mercury will fall a bit in the next few days as an approaching cold front will bring the temperatures down.

The forecast for Belize and her coastal waters starting this afternoon is for an increase in cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms.

The change in weather will start in the north and inland areas and then spread to the rest of the country tonight.

With the hot daytime temperatures that have dominated our weather recently, this sudden change has the potential to cause severe thunderstorms.

Winds over the open sea and along the coast will be northerly to northwesterly at five to fifteen knots, increasing and becoming gusty later this evening.

The sea state will be choppy becoming rough later today.

Operators of small craft are advised to exercise caution in rough seas.

High temperatures today will peak at 91 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; 96 degrees Fahrenheit inland and 80 degrees Fahrenheit up in the hills.

Low temperatures tonight will range from 72 degrees Fahrenheit along coastal areas, to 64 degrees Fahrenheit inland. It will be a cool 60 degrees Fahrenheit up at the exposed areas of the Mountain Pine Ridge and along the Maya Mountains in the south.

The tides: there will be a high tide at 4:29 pm today. This will be followed by a low tide at 11:10 am on Wednesday.

The sun will set at 6:07 pm today. Sunrise on Wednesday will be at 5:41 am.

The moon will rise at 12:49 pm today. It will set at 1:46 am on Wednesday.

The extended forecast, valid through to Thursday afternoon is for variably cloudy, windy and cool weather with little or no rainfall expected.

And that is a look at the weather, with information provided by forecaster Francisca Wellington at the Belize Weather Bureau.

The cold front wasn't imaginary, we slept under a blanket last night, burrrr, but no free water delivery associated with this one, disappointing. The island is very dry.
