We will have 6nts after we leave AC, we were thinking of Chan Chich and Chaa Creek for 3nts each. First, is this a good idea ? and second what would anyone suggest to how we should get around the Mainland to these places?? There will be four of us. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We really like Jaguar Paw www.jaguarpaw.com
The cave tubing was awesome.
Wherever you go, rent a car at the airport. Drive around! It's hard to get lost on the mainland because there are so few major roads.

Especially with four people, I'd suggest you rent a car. You'll end up saving money on tours, taxis, etc. plus have the freedom to go where and when you want.

Chaa Creek and Chan Chich are both quality lodges. As the toucan flies they are not that far from each other but in fact to get from Chaa Creek to Chan Chich you have to go back almost to Belize City, take the Burrell Boom road and then up the Northern Higway to Orange Walk and then on secondary roads several hours to Chan Chich. It's a long drive but interesting and once you're in Programme for Belize and Gallon Jug lands you'll see a lot of wildlife.

I would probably split the time between Phyllis Dart's Ek'Tun Lodge on the Macal River in Cayo and Chan Chich at Gallon Jug, the first for the jungle setting, caving, and fantastic natural pool, and the second for the birding and wildlife spotting, plus Bowen's farm.

But there are many other good lodges: Chaa Creek, duPlooy's, Blancaneaux, Lamanai Outpost, Pook's Hill, Banana Bank, Jaguar Paw, Hidden Valley, among others.

If you go to Bowens at Chan Chic save plenty of room in your luggage for "Lissettes' Secret sauce"! And "Mango Tango" too!
Don't leave the place without it!..Richard
