My advice - store your stuff, move down, shop here and see what you can get / what you need.
Then go back stateside, divest what you don't need, ship what you treasure and shop to fill in the gaps.
I find that prices for small appliances and other household goods are the same, if not a little bit less at Mirab than if purchased up north. Curtains, pillows, etc - also available, affordable and nice.
Selection not as great, and no big sales, but for me it was great fun to get things locally --
The goods I'd bring from the US - bedsheets, computers, printer cartridges, personal items.
When in the US I also stock up on quality body lotion, contact lens solution and toothbrushes.
