The 2014 National Elite Basketball Competition is fast winding up with the commencement of the playoffs set for this Friday May 23, 2014.
The regular season came to an end over the last weekend with a number of games across the country that was of very high importance as they related to the playoffs picture. On Thursday May 15, at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, the visiting Belmopan Point Bandits defeated the Cayo Western Ballaz by the score of 81- 78 to secure its place into the playoff round.
The top scorers for the Belmopan Point Bandits were Stephen Williams with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist, Dorian Jones with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Christian Rodriguez with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Johan Bermudez with 21 points, 9 rebounds, Farron Louriano with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Travis Lennan also with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
On Friday May 16, at Bird’s Isle in Belize City, Belize City (Smart) No Limit defeated the visiting Dangriga Warriors thus eliminating them by the score of 94-64 to advance to the playoff round as the number three seed. The top scorers for the Belize City (Smart) No Limit team were Andrew Ortiz with 23 points, 6 rebounds, Gregory Rudon with 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists and Brian White with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. For the Dangriga Warriors, the top scorers were Jamir Flores with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal, Trevaughan Usher with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist, and Brandon Flowers also with 12 points, and 6 rebounds.
The competition continued on Saturday May 17, with two more games, at San Pedro, the home team San Pedro Tigersharks defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 83-60. The top scorers for the San Pedro Tigersharks were Louis Pitterson with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, Winston Pratt with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Jamal Kelly with 11 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal. For the Orange Walk Running Rebels the top scorers were Randy Usher with 21 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal and Omar Tesecum with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
At the end of the regular season, the playoff pictures now shape up to be San Pedro Tigersharks as the number one seed, Cayo Western Ballaz as the number two seed, the Belize City No Limit team the number three seed and the number four seed is the Belmopan Point Bandits.
The playoff will commence on Friday May 23, 2014 at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium between the Belize City (Smart) No Limit and the Cayo Western Ballaz. Then on Saturday May 24 in San Pedro at the Angel Nunez Auditorium it will be Belmopan Point Bandits against the San Pedro Tigersharks.The Guardian
