We have been having recurring issues with the BTL internet for almost a month now. We purchase 2 mbps speed and lately can rarely even connect. Certain websites will not load at all, others are painfully slow. The technicians have been by two times testing the connection from street to our condo, and of course, this is not the problem. They say that it is a bigger problem and have been wasting there time by going through their check out routine. No one at BTL will even acknowledge there is an issue despite the many, many calls they are getting. Heck, their voicemail box is usually full and you can not even speak to them. It is extremely frustrating that BTL charges some of the highest rates in the world and provide some of the poorest service. The customer service folks you speak to are very polite but are of no value in trying to get the issue resolved. Anyone else have any idea of what is going on? With so many folks relocating to Belize and needing a reliable connection to do their work, this is a big problem.

Anyone could have told you that it has always been this way and probably always will. Did you do any research before you moved to Belize?

I have been living and working here on and off for 10 years, but thanks for your concern. The issue appears that the BTL system is of not particularly high quality and has been stressed by the growth of installations particularly on Ambergris Caye. It hasn't always been like this but there are issues from time to time. My issue is that BTL never seems to be willing to acknowledge there is a system problem and one might assume if they won't acknowledge the issue, it will be slow in getting resolved. There are many people relocating to Belize that depend on reliable internet to conduct business while enjoying Belize. Everyone can't own a dive shop after all. I did finally get confirmation from one of the reps in San Pedro that they are having country wide issues with the internet. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I'm thinking....since it's been like this...why do you think because more people want to live here (or are living here), is this a reason for things to get better?
