Would someone please explain his law. I see two and three people on bicycles and motorcycles all the time. Is this against the law?
If so are they going to start enforcing the laws of the land????

San Pedro Daily July 21:
Carried a person on a bicycle/
Allowed self to be carried on a bicycle
On Friday, July 11th at around 8:30PM, while on his way to work, PC Serano noticed two males who were double ridding on Caribena Street. As a result PC Serano stopped the individuals, identified as 27-year-old Giovanni Williams and 24-year-old Elroy Williams, and informed them of the offence that they had committed. The two men were escorted to the San Pedro Police station where they were charged for committing a crime contrary to Section 87 (1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 230 of the Substantive Laws of Belize Revised Edition 2003.

Interesting, I once had a motorcycle and was pulled over for too many riders. Was told that there must be foot pegs for as many riders. So I added another set and it complied with the Idaho Law. Funny to read about this.

That was truly the most unreal police report I have ever seen! How many murders, robberies, etc. take place, but let's get those bicyclists with 2 on a bike. And escorted to the police station. Unbelievable!

It is part of a theory to clean up communities. Instead of always and only focusing on large crimes and high risk offenders, focus on petty crime and keep people from getting used to breaking the law. NYC started its clean up this way and there were tons of complaints. It works but each community must decide its value. Belize City is also employing these tactics. But all research seems to point to short term frustration but long term clean up. Bike laws are bike laws and were passed for a reason. Why is it ok to break that law and not others, is the reasoning

I agree that starting small is absolutely the way to go. I completely get that. I don't know that I can wrap my head around a "law" that two people can't ride on a bicycle. Fairly odd and not something I've ever heard of. How about we stop the insane speeding that goes on. That would be much more helpful for starting to create the desired culture vs riding two on a bike.

As a 16 year old kid in UK did exactly the same thing coming home from my Safeway job. Thought the car was a taxi, was Old Bill (cop) Because we ignored him and kept going I got pulled. Got taken to Court and got a GBP45 fine. (US$100 fine in '81). 3 weeks wages. Been a bit of a rebel when it comes to the law ever since wink

Usually the "broken window" theory focuses on vandalism not harm-to-self crimes.

Yes well there is the possibility of that effect. In fact, one can argue that the 60's never would have happened if firecrakers had not been made illegal and all those kids found out it was so much more fun to blow up illegal firecrakers

In Belize City they've picked a bunch of people on drug charges and outstanding warrants, failure to appear and such by busting people without bells/lights and riding up street.
