Industria del Amor to Highlight Costa Maya Festival 2014

With the success of presenting Los Yonics at last year's festival, the Costa Maya Festival Committee announces the confirmed concert performance of Industria del Amor during International Night of the festival that will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

California's Industria del Amor began in the late '80s, scoring several minor hits in Mexico before breaking out in the early '90s as a sort of mid-level soft-rock Tejano ballad hit machine. The group's major hit single was "A Capa y Espada" and their albums continued chart throughout the years after. The group's continuing popularity was confirmed with the release of two greatest-hits packages, 30 Inolvidables and 30 Inolvidables, Vol. 2, both of which were Top 20 Latin chart hits in 2003.

With the confirmed performance of Industria del Amor for international night, the festival committee now embarks on filling up the spots for the rest of the performers, entertainers and singers that will make yet another successful year for the San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival.

All eight countries participating in the Miss Costa Maya Pageant (Reina de la Costa Maya) have confirmed that they will be sending over beauty delegates to compete for the coveted Costa Maya crown and the committee is looking to book entertainment for the younger generation.

More updates will follow as the Costa Maya Festival committee keeps updating. The Festival has been scheduled for August 7 to 9, 2014.

Costa Maya Delegates Touch Down in Belize

Delegates from Central America and Mexico are now in San Pedro for the annual Reina de la Costa Maya Festival. The pageant is one of the main events of the annual festival that seeks to promote culture in the Spanish speaking region. The Belizean delegate is from orange Walk, she hopes to keep the title in Belize. Duane Moody and Chelsea Wagner caught up today with the Belizean beauties.

Chelsea Wagner, Reporting

For over a month, the organizers of the International Costa Maya Festival have been posting on their website information on the delegates from the Central American countries and Mexico who will participate in the 2014 La Reina De La Costa Maya. The pageant, which opens the festivities, is scheduled for next Thursday and the delegates have already landed in La Isla Bonita for a week of preliminary activities. The title is currently held by Belize's Destinee Arnold who today arrived from the U.S.

Destinee Arnold

Destinee Arnold, La Reina De La Costa Maya 2013

"It is actually a pretty level playing field right now so I think that we are going to expect some surprises. Some girls that we didn't expect things from is going to be blowing up that stage. So I am just really excited to see what all they have to offer. My platform was basically just giving back and making sure that I carry on the Mayan legacy and I think I have accomplished that. I hosted a huge toy drive in America and I brought back all the toys in Roaring Creek and gave back all the toys and did a raffle giving out money. So I think that was my main event and I am really proud of it. Right now I am just working on new projects.making it bigger and better."

Twenty-two-year-old Grisel Carballo from Orange Walk is this year's representative for Belize. Carballo recently won the Miss Diosa Maya International and says that she is ready for the festival.

Grisel Carballo

Grisel Carballo, Belizean Delegate, La Reina De La Costa Maya 2014

"Costa Maya is a pageant that I always wanted to do and last week I was in California training with her and I think that based on that, I've been preparing myself all along."

Duane Moody

"Now we know that you've competed before. How do you think that will help you with this competition on an international stage?"

Grisel Carballo

"Last year, I represented Belize at Miss Diosa Maya International which was a pageant held in Merida. It was based on the Mundo Maya countries. It was my first international pageant and it was the first time I actually brought home the title for Belize. As a Belizean my aim and as a nortea because I am from Orange Walk, I hold the Mayan culture to heart. One of my aims that I look forward to in this competition is not only representing this culture that sets us apart from so many things. It is a civilization that has been worldwide and it has made an impact and I hold that dear to my heart. So that is what I will go for being of direct Mayan descent and I am very proud to represent Belize."

Arnold gave some advice to the delegates as they embark on the preliminary activities and prepare for the international stage.

Destinee Arnold

"I think that you just mainly have to bring out your inner beauty. I think that's really what San Pedro is looking for. They are looking for a girl that they can relate to, who they can hold a conversation with and just someone that shows that pageants are just more than the outer beauty. Someone that they can just sit down and laugh with and not think that oh I'm with a beauty queen right now. They just want to fall in love with you."

The other delegates are: Miss Guatemala, Keyla Bermudez; Miss Honduras, Maria Jose Alvarado; Miss El Salvador, Ana Hasbun Boscaino; Miss Mexico, Elisa Espinoza; Miss Costa Rica, Raquel Guevara Avila; Miss Panama, Karol Salinas; Miss Nicaragua, Katherine Guadamuz Tapia. Reporting for News Five, I am Chelsea Wagner.
