Would appreciate a recommendation. Will be arriving in San Pedro, from whatever ferry comes first, and meeting a boat to be transported to North Ambergris Caye late in the afternoon.
Would someone kindly recommend the store - with basic directions- I can walk to most quickly, as our time schedule will be tight, but would like to pick up some staples for the few days in the north.
Thank you for any help.

Not sure where Champion got his info..... There is no Caye Mart and Back Street is a long way from the water taxi piers.

If you arrive at the pier by Texaco, walk up the alley to Front Street and turn left. You will find the San Pedrano Grocery on your left in a white building.

If you arrive on the San Pedro Belize Express, walk up the alley to Front Street and turn right. About a block up the street on your left you will find a grocery store.

All Water Taxis arrive at different docks so the info changes dependent on which water Taxi you arrive with. Just ask on arrival as you will be in Town. Back Street Store is Super Buy probably largest close store for all Water Taxis. A (land)taxi will be US$5 each way and for a bit more will wait while you shop. All Water Taxis are met by taxis and have drivers waiting by the boat exits.

Ritchies store is not terribly close to the water taxi docs but it is on your way north. It's locally owned and has a good selection . It is also one of the few places I've been able to find fresh warm flour tortillas. It's on the roundabout next to Castillo's hardware store. Ask for directions and you will find it easily. Enjoy your trip to Belize.

Ritchie's is no longer "locally" owned. Technically all stores are locally owned but, for the information of those who don't live here, if they are owned by immigrants then they are not "locally" owned...

Looking in perhaps, but not really. Down here local often means native Belizean rather than naturalised - however many generations back naturalisation happened - and even San Pedrano over mainland Belizean. Not generally meant as an offensive or discriminatory statement. It's not so PC sensitive here.
