Ambergris Caye Police and Coast Guard officials are investigating the discovery of a strange submersible object that was found floating on the reef. Shortly after 3PM, police were tipped off about the object and headed about six miles north of San Pedro Town near the Mexico Rocks Area where they observed the device stuck on the reef.

San Pedro Police did confirm that indeed they are investigating what the object is, but at this point they are unable to say what it is and where it came from.

I'm with Elbert. I was trying to do research for missing submersibles last night but could only find reports of one in New Zealand.

more likely..... ROV: A remotely operated underwater vehicle, commonly referred to as an ROV, is a tethered underwater vehicle. They are common in deep water industries such as offshore hydrocarbon extraction.

They call it "Quantum 9 Heavy work-Class ROV" on the Hol Chan Marine Reserve Facebook fan page. I Googled it and it is similar to the ones from Deeptech Oil Services : "Our ROV services include full inspection, repair and maintenance services, platform inspection, pipeline inspection, construction support and drilling support." Guess they are already working on the off shore oil drilling in Belize.
