Easter is a big holiday in Belize and the labor board has a holiday pay schedule that has confusing language. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday seem to be extra holiday pay days. Some double and some triple. What does this really mean, anyone have a good understanding of how we pay our folks when they work and when they don't?
If I understand it Double Time means, if you work normally for 100. per day and you work the Holiday that pays 'Double Time you will receive a total of 300. for the day??? if you don't work you receive 100.
Is this correct?

Correct. It is Holiday Pay PLUS regular pay. Friday and Monday are double time holidays, Saturday is time and a half (plus their regular pay).

That's not correct any more. The laws were revised/clarified several years ago along with severance entitlement etc. We have confirmed this to be the case with the labour board. However, if you have been paying the old way you need to advise your employees in writing well in advance of making the change. Thirty days notice is usually acceptable.

Friday was double time so a person normally paid $100 would get $200, on Saturday they would get $150.

Simon, I'm still a little confused, are you saying it this person worked on Friday they would only collect 200 or 300?

If you were normally paid $100 per day and worked on the Friday you would be paid $200. If you didn't work on the Friday you would be paid $100 as long as you worked the scheduled day before and after the holiday, if you didn't work the day before and after you would not get paid for the holiday (if you were on vacation for example).

Before the amendments it would have been $300 if you worked and were paid $100 per day.
