Belize Bird Rescue has released their first 2015 newsletter. Read all about the wonderful work they've been involved in, as well as the new Parrot Registration Programme. Thanks, BBR, for all you've been doing!

"2014 saw a record number of intakes at BBR with 236 birds coming through our doors. Because of our work with the Captive Wildlife Programme, many of those intakes were parrots (106), but as the only avian rescue and rehabilitation centre in Belize, we help whatever species comes our way. 2014 brought us 53 raptors, 21 waterbirds and 56 songbirds. It was also record-breaking year for barn owls: 24 of these much-maligned rat-eaters visited BBR, with all but 3 them being successfully released back into the wild."

Question. I thought there was more than one Belizean bird rescue, aviary, ngo operation. The site attached to this newsletter says it is the ONLY bird rescue in Belize. Isn't there an NGO bird rescue, rehabilitation, operation in San Ignacio?

Perhaps you're thinking of Wildtracks in Sarteneja (www.wildtracks.org). In the south there is also Ya'axche conservation (www.ya'axche.org).

Wildtracks will take in injured or surrendered wildlife but they specialize in monkeys and manatee. If a wild bird is brought to them, the BBR will be called to take it for preparation for release, if releasable.

Rain Forest Foundation does work with scarlet macaws (www.rainforestrestoration.org).

No. I found a place that actually has an NGO attached, an aviary, and apparently do or did bird rescue, rehabilitation. And it is in San Ignacio. Found online. Don't know if it is operational, but ..... so, maybe a former location of Belize Bird Rescue? And, now a resort? Anybody?

It is no longer operational and has nothing to do with Belize Bird Rescue.
