There are all manner of criminal issues bedevilling the Police on San Pedro, Belize’s premier tourism destination and seriously lucrative revenue earner. Violence on the island has spiked, as has drug-related activity and in recent weeks Police have launched any number of special operations to get it under control. Judging from the two recent murders they’ve got some way to go, and today, Sergeant Lenancio Bol told News Five that they’re willing to do whatever it takes to restore peace to the island.
Lenancio Bol, Station Sergeant, San Pedro
“We did start the twelve hour shift system, which is from seven am to seven pm. We do have an operation team which is up and running. Ever since the previous taxi murder we continue to do the extra patrols, we continue to have the Special Branch gather the information as it comes along. We follow up on it, we do house searches, we try to get the people…concerned people have been calling in and we try to ensure that we act on all these calls. They have different places within different areas in San Pedro that we believe whenever people see strange faces they would call the Police and then we would do our house searches and things like that, so we do have things in place already for it.”
