Garbage:

The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) hereby notifies the general public that in accordance with the Town Council’s (Control of Refuse) Bylaws No. 13 of 2005 section 3 – “The occupier of any premises within the limits of any town shall provide on the premises a suitable receptacle with a secured cover for the contamination of garbage.” Moreover, section 10 (e) – “A person within the limits of any town who exposes, on any sidewalk, street, or any place where the content may be scattered onto a public place, a receptacle containing garbage not sufficiently protected so as to effectively prevent content of the receptacle from being exposed or scattered commits a littering offence,” therefore; section 11(1) “Any person who commits an offence may be issued a violation ticket with a fine of $500.00.”

With this in mind, the SPTC is requesting that all business owners to construct proper bins to be placed within their business premises (accessible for the garbage collectors) and to properly cut, fold and tie all boxes and place them inside the garbage bins. This request will help in preventing the garbage from scattering, as we are a tourist destination and the council relies on the business community’s support to keep the garbage from causing an eyesore to “La Isla Bonita”

The San Pedro Town Council thanks you for your full cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Vehicle Tinting:

The San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro Transport Department (SPTD) hereby informs the general public that the SPTD will be conducting the removal of TINTED VEHICLE WINDOWS on May 26, 2015 at the Louis Cuz Sylvestre Sports Complex (formerly known as Saca Chispas/Old Football Field) throughout the day, this is in accordance with Section 5 Subsection (2) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic (Tinted Windows) Regulations 2011.

After the above-mentioned date, in accordance with Section 5. (3): A person who fails to comply with subsection (2) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $500.00.

The San Pedro Town Council and San Pedro Transport Department thanks you for your full cooperation and understanding in this matter.

NYK, Respect. I'm not being sarcastic here simply asking the question, why do you think they are placing a priority on having tints removed? Aside from the ordinance as stated, why now? I have a good idea just curious if other people have reached the same conclusion or had the same thought...

It is absolutely related to being able to see inside the vehicles and make spurious behaviors and persons more visible. Even taxis and taxi drivers will be safer. Many small steps to improve safety will turn things around.

Well,in the states the rationale is so that law enforcement can see the occupants of the vehicle. I suspect the police here pretty well know almost every vehicle and the owner so I have no clue why this seems to be such a priority...

Yes my thoughts were related to who is in the car not so much who owns the car...I would simply point out (most regrettably) that a taxi driver acquaintance of ours is no longer alive because of the occupants. I'm not saying this could have been prevented in his tragic case but it is a tool. I suspect that although the ordinance has been on the books for some time, the time for enforcement has come home big time.
