Fundraiser Planned to Support Pet Care and Belizean Youth Participation in an International Championship Regatta

In lieu of gifts, Caribbean Villas is using Pedro's 60th birthday as an excuse to throw an all-out lollapalooza of a fund raiser for his two favorite charities: the San Pedro Animal Foundation and the San Pedro Sailing Club. Regardless of what you think of him, these are two extremely worthy causes.

At noon, Sunday, June 7, Amber Beach Bar and Grill will begin the transformation into "party central." Cool J's band will cook up their hot Caribbean style of music, while aromas of a succulent pig roasting nearby mingle with those of hot dogs and burgers on the grill and tempt taste buds to succumb. Minions are at this moment gathering a myriad luxurious raffle prizes and auction items. Some of the latter will be part of a silent auction; others will be offered in Chinese auctions.

The San Pedro Animal Foundation funds veterinary care for pets whose owners cannot provide for them the complex or emergency care they need, without financial assistance. The foundation supports the San Pedro Animal Hospital, the only one in Belize that offers 24-hour service, and the standard of licensed, professional service it provides is acknowledged to be superb.

One member of the San Pedro Sailing Club, Kevin Velasquez, age 13, and the club's coach, Juan Mazzini, have been invited to the 2015 North American Optimist Dinghy Championship Regatta, to be held July 5 -12 at English Harbor on the West Indian island of Antigua, over on the eastern edge of the Caribbean Sea. It's the biggest regatta in this hemisphere. Kevin, a native San Pedrano and former Belize National Champion, joins three other young Belizeans in the country's very first excursion into an international championship regatta of any size. Juan Mazzini will coach all four in Antigua, and has been and will continue to prepare them. The International Optimist Dinghy Association is providing a substantial portion of the cost of Belizean participation in the regatta, but there is urgent and immediate need of additional funds to cover the rest of the cost of sending the club's coach and one of its sailors to the regatta.

National pride and the welfare of helpless animals in need are both involved. Please come out to support this worthy cause while enjoying a fun beach bash!

Fundraiser on Sunday

Pedro's Birthday Bash Fundraiser
benefitting the San Pedro Sailing Club & San Pedro Animal Foundation.

Sunday June 7th, 2015 at AMBER Beach Bar & Grill (at Caribbean Villas Hotel)
starting at 11:30 am.

Silent Auction items, Raffles, 50-50 draws, Chinese Auctions

Live Music by The Mighty Cool J's

Beach BBQ, Pig Roast, Drink Specials
Sailing
Games and fun for children of all ages!

Come out and bankrupt Peter and support worthy causes

prizes include - Lunch at Cayo Espanto, 2 Night Stay at the Lodge at Chaa
Creek, 2 Night stay at Victoria House, 2 night stay at Hidden Valley,
Blue Hole Day Trips, Mainland Tours, Local Diving, Catamaran Sailing,
Bar tabs all over town and much more...

With the sailing club the funds are not specificially to send Kevin
to Antiga for the Optinam2015 sailing races - it's to generally raise
funds for the club. The big thing is that 88% of the sailing kids in
the club are local Belizean kids, not Expat kids (there is a
perception that the Sailing Club is elitist for Gringo kids, it's
not!) I believe it will be 60% to Sailing Club and 40% to Animal
Foundation but that might not be carved in stone as of now.

All money generated by the raffles, silent auction and chinese auction
will go to the causes, plus a % of sales from the bar (not sure the
exact number at this point but a percentage will definitely go).

The Animal Foundation is set up to assist low income residents who
cannot afford whatever procedures their pets may need. In a case of
need, the Animal HOSPITAL will discoun their prices 30% off the top,
then the Animal FOUNDATION will make the decision if the people
qualify for assistance - in the case that they do the Foundation pays
the bill completely.

It's really for things like pets being run over, or other emergency situations.

Pedro's celebrated 60th birthday with a fundraising party

Peter "Pedro" Lawrence celebrated his 60th birthday by hosting a fundraising benefit on Sunday, June 7th at Amber Beach Bar & Grill located on the grounds of Caribbean Villas. The event saw a day of fun activities for the whole family, while raising funds for the San Pedro Sailing Club and the San Pedro Animal Foundation. After kicking off at 11:30AM, the celebration want well into the late evening, making the fundraiser was a huge success.

Patrons arrived early to enjoy the musical vibes from The Mighty Cool J's, as well as partaking ofthe delicious eats available. Many indulged in the event's signature pig roast, while enjoying drink specials. There were lots of games and activities for the children, including free sailing lessons. Throughout the event, those in attendance had the opportunity to win great prizes through raffles and 50/50 draws. The highlight of the event was the silent auction, with close to 40 fabulous items up for bid.

Everyone was more than happy to empty their pockets in support of these two great establishments. All proceeds of the event went to the San Pedro Animal Foundation, which offers free veterinary care for pets whose owners cannot provide the advance or emergency care they need, and the San Pedro Sailing Club, who is currently raising funds for Kevin Velasquez to participate in the 2015 North American Optimist Dinghy Championship Regatta.

A Wild Success at the Pedro's 60th Birthday Fundraiser Bash.

What an amazing day on Sunday June 7th! The organizers of the Pedro's 60th Birthday Fundraiser Bash at AMBER Beach Bar & Grill (at Caribbean Villas) are proud to announce that we were able to raise a grand total of $15,000 BZD between the Silent Auction, the various Raffles, the Chinese Auction, a VERY generous donation by Corry McDermott and the percentage of sales donation from AMBER Beach Bar & Grill. The proceeds of the fundraiser will be split as follows: to the San Pedro Sailing Club a total of $8,500 BZD and to the San Pedro Animal Foundation a total of $6,500 BZD.

The money contributed to the San Pedro Sailing Club will go towards the continuation of providing free training and use of all equipment for the local children of San Pedro, and also to cover future costs of helping sailor Kevin Velasquez represent Belize at International Sailing Events. The money contributed to the San Pedro Animal Foundation will be used to allow the San Pedro Animal Hospital to treat cases of trauma and illness in pets who have owners who are unable to afford veterinary care, and to help control the animal population in San Pedro by assisting families in need with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets.

A HUGE thank you goes out to the businesses and individuals that donated items to the Silent Auction, Chinese Auction and Raffles:

The Lodge at Chaa Creek, Amigo's del Mar Dive Shop, Ramon's Divers, Victoria House Hotel, Hidden Valley Inn, Caribbean Villas Hotel, Sunbreeze Suites, Sunbreeze Hotel, Rain Restaurant, Cayo Espanto, Castaway Caye, Kite Xplorer, Ambergris Divers, Chuck & Robbie's Dive Shop, Premium Wines & Spirits, San Pedro Sun, Casa Picasso, Seaduced by Belize, ACES, Catamaran Belize Tours, Ecologic Divers, Tastes of Thailand, Wild Mangos Restaurant, Belize Sailing Center, Ecologic Divers, Maya Island Air, LC Distributors, Lola's Pub, Big Sur Paddleboards, Fido's Restaurant & Bar, Cocolocos Beach Bar, Lone Star Bar & Grill, Roadkill Bar, Wayo's Bar, Wine De Vine, Lunch Box, Candle Garden Store, Hotel Supply Store, 12 Belize Store and Travellers Rum.

Special thanks to the individuals who volunteered their time at the event: Lara Goldman, Nile (Jake) Duppstadt, Laurie Norton and Bob Utsman.

And of course no charity event ever works without the people who come to support the event so a HUGE thank you to everyone who came on Sunday to celebrate Peter's Birthday and contribute to these very worthy causes. Winners of the silent auction items that have not claimed their prize yet will be contacted in the next few days to arrange pick up of their prizes.
