Veteran radio broadcaster and sports enthusiast Gerald Garbutt passed away today after suffering a massive stroke sometime last week. Garbutt was a mainstay in the local media for over fifty years, working at Radio Belize, Krem Radio and FM2000. He was also active in basketball, football and cycling. In April 2008, the former President of the Belize Cycling Association made headlines when fellow sports aficionado Santiago Castillo Jr. announced his retirement from cycling, amid controversy between Garbutt and Raymond Cattouse over the manner in which the association was being ran.
